As parents it’s really important for kids to eat fruits and vegetables everyday, such that eating them becomes a normal part of their day and is no longer a struggle.

You need to fill half of their plate with fruits and veggies as it helps to keep your baby strong, fit, healthy and encourages good eating habits from a young age.

Here are some ways you can encourage your kid to eat fruits and vegetables:

1- Role Model

Be a good role model to your children. Serve them with fruits and vegetables at every meal and do the same with your meals as well so they can see you eating healthy meals also.

Don’t force your kids or bring their attention to fruits or vegetables, simply serve them and let them take their time eating it. This should be a normal part of their day.

2- Options

You can keep varying the fruit or vegetables options on the plate every week so they can start finding their favourite fruit or vegetables that they love to eat the most.

You can try cooking recipes with various spices, herbs and ethnicities to expand your kid’s palette.

3- Stock up

When you go out for groceries, stock up on pre-washed greens and frozen fruits and veggies so it’s easier for you to cook or fix up a quick salad for dinner.

You can even buy canned, frozen or dried fruits for snacks or meal time as they are both nutritious as well as economical to buy.

4- Add-ons

You can use fruits as add-ons on food cereals, yogurt, celery or salad.

Try finding different recipes where you can add your favourite fruits in top of these as add-ons to fulfil your fruit requirement of the day.

5- Dipping

Try creating different dips from fruits and vegetables that children will love to eat.

They can dip apples in peanut butter, peppers in hummus and baby carrots in salad dressings.

6- Fruit Juice

Though eating whole fruit is better than drinking fruit juice but sometimes you can serve them whole fruit juice with no added sugar so it’s healthy to drink.

7- Salads

Try to serve salads more often. They are easy to make and with the right dressing and dips, they can be extremely delicious as well as nutritious to have.

Salads are fulfilling and can be served as side dishes at home as well as in restaurants.

8- Family meals

Try to eat together as a family in all the meal times with the children as studies show children are likely to eat more fruits and vegetables when they see other family members doing the same thing.

Conclusion

We hope these simple tips above help you and your child to incorporate more fruits and vegetables in your meal times.

It’s important to remember by choosing healthy food, you are establishing good eating habits in your children that will last for the rest of their lives.
