With the arrival of the 21st century, a lot of parents let their children use various gadgets either for educational purposes or to keep them distracted while they can finish their own work.

As a result, kids as young as 2 years or 3 years become expert in playing mobile games and using other gadgets. While this is looked as a boon, but using too much of something can become a disadvantage as well!

As parents, it is your duty to help your child get over technology addiction and there are various measures you can take such that your child doesn’t become addicted to gadgets all day.

Here are some ways to help keep your child away from various gadgets:

1- Lead them by example

One of the best ways for your child to learn is when they see their own parents following the rule.

If you want your child to focus less on gadget and do other task then lead them by example by not using your tablet or laptop and instead reading a book or taking a walk outside.

Try to reduce your usage of technology when you are around your children as much as possible.

2- Rules

Try to establish rules at home and ensure that your child follows them for a healthy lifestyle.

Try to make tough decisions and decide only an hour usage of phones or tablets and not more than that, no matter how much your children plead with you.

Explain them the reason behind your rule and ensure they understand it and follow it.

3- Daily limit

Give your child an option everyday to either use their tablet or tv for an hour everyday according to their choice.

If they choose tv, they can watch their favourite cartoon for an hour everyday or if they choose tablet, they can play their favourite game everyday. This will encourage them to have freedom and make decisions of their own.

4- Other activities

One of the best and sure shot ways to help distract your child is to involve them in other activities, like encouraging them to sit down with you and play puzzles or other board games.

You can also go out with them to the park and play badminton or football.

5- Limit the visibility of gadgets

You can limit the visibility and number of gadgets around the house.

You can keep your PS4 inside the cupboard until you come back from the office and play it inside your own bedroom away from the prying eyes of your children.

You don’t have to buy the latest versions on various gadgets like phones or laptops.

6- Avoid gadgets as crutches

A lot of parents allow their children to use phones as they don’t want to be distracted from their own work.

Instead listen to what they want to do and take the help of your partner, parent or hire a help so that your child can do other activities instead of getting addicted to gadgets.

Conclusion

We hope this article helps to prevent your child from being gadget addicted. As they say, too much usage of anything can be harmful and this is true in the cases of gadgets.
